The International Presentation Association is committed to advocating for the rights, dignity, and well-being of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples. Rooted in a deep respect for their cultures, traditions, and spiritual connections to the land, our work focuses on amplifying their voices, promoting self-determination, and addressing the injustices they face.
Our IPA Justice Contacts are actively engaged with Indigenous and Tribal communities across the globe, supporting efforts to protect land rights, preserve cultural heritage, and advance social justice. Through international advocacy, grassroots initiatives, and collaboration with Indigenous-led organizations, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in their pursuit of justice, equity, and sustainable futures.

“It is essential to show special care for Indigenous Communities and their cultural traditions. They are not merely one minority among others, but should be the principal dialogue partners, especially when large projects affecting their land are proposed. For them, land is not a commodity but rather a gift from God and from their ancestors who rest there, a sacred space with which they need to interact if they are to maintain their identity and values. When they remain on their land, they themselves care for it best. Nevertheless, in various parts of the world, pressure is being put on them to abandon their homelands to make room for agricultural or mining projects which are undertaken without regard for the degradation of nature and culture.”
– Pope Francis, Laudato Si’ (LS #146)

ADVOCACY FOR THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS AND TRIBAL PEOPLE
As part of our commitment to justice and human rights, the International Presentation Association actively participates in several NGO committees at the United Nations. Through these committees, we advocate for systemic change, collaborate with global partners, and amplify the voices of marginalized communities, including Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, who are disproportionately affected by many global injustices.
As part of the NGO Committee on Social Development, IPA supports policies that promote economic justice, land rights, and access to essential services for Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, ensuring their perspectives are included in global discussions on sustainable development.

APOLOGY TO CANADIAN INDIGENOUS
PEOPLE
In July 2022, Pope Francis made a historic apology to the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, acknowledging the deep wounds inflicted by the Catholic Church’s role in the residential school system. Speaking with profound sorrow, he addressed the immense suffering caused by the forced assimilation, abuse, and cultural erasure that Indigenous communities endured for generations.
"With shame and unambiguously, I humbly beg forgiveness for the evil committed by so many Christians against the Indigenous peoples," Pope Francis declared, recognizing the lasting impact of these injustices. His apology marked a significant moment in the journey toward healing and reconciliation, though Indigenous leaders and advocates continue to call for concrete actions to address historical wrongs and support Indigenous self-determination.
